We have this week proudly handed back the video archives belonging to the renowned British Fashion Designer, Betty Jackson. We were approached in the summer to transfer a large collection of U-matic and VHS tapes chronicling the career of this London based fashion house. I was personally very excited as we were in the process of installing a new bank of video restoration decks, so I had a great chance to play with my new toys. Our first batch of transfers were great – but not stunning. So with some tweaking and fine-tuning, we really customised the process to make the most out of the tapes which included interviews and catwalk shows.
With the topic being modelling, much of the film had been shot with a very soft focus lens, so extra care had to be taken not to over-soften the image when applying the re-mastering filters. We successfully upscaled all the footage to full high definition, and provided the customer digital files designed to integrate seamlessly into their Apple Mac environment, so movies can be shared around their offices via their Apple network.
We took far too long of course – I’m a terrible perfectionist who is well known for ruining the estimates my colleagues give out! But I hope the people at Betty Jackson appreciate that they now have a wonderful archive of the highest quality, in the most accessible form, that will serve them for many years to come.
